Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made a new revelation in the criminal defamation case filed against him. Rahul Gandhi alleged in an application submitted to the special MP/MLA court in Pune that the complainant, Satyaki Savarkar, has a crucial family connection with Mahatma Gandhi's assassin, Nathuram Godse.
The application, submitted through Rahul Gandhi's lawyer Milind Pawar, states that Satyaki Savarkar is the son of Ashok Savarkar, who is the nephew of Hindutva leader Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. While Satyaki himself revealed this connection, Rahul Gandhi argues that he deliberately concealed the crucial information that his mother, Himani, is the daughter of Gopal Godse, Nathuram Godse's brother. Nathuram Godse and Gopal Godse were both convicted for their involvement in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.
Rahul Gandhi emphasizes that this concealment of information is a serious factual suppression, especially since Satyaki is attempting to file a defamation case regarding Gandhi's remarks against Savarkar. Through these revelations, Rahul Gandhi is questioning the complainant's credibility and impartiality.
Following Rahul Gandhi's controversial remarks about Savarkar, Satyaki Savarkar, a member of the Savarkar family, had approached the court seeking criminal defamation proceedings.
The court will now have to consider the relevance and legal implications of this revelation of family connection.
