An Isolated Nation: Pakistan in the Global Web

Despite adopting increasingly hostile stances against India, Pakistan is now reeling from the lack of strong international support it once enjoyed. In the past, following military actions such as those in Balakot and Kargil, Pakistan often managed to recover with assistance from powerful allies like the United States and China. However, in the current India-Pakistan standoff, such aid has been noticeably absent, dealing a significant blow to Pakistan.

The situation worsened after India's strong retaliation to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Contrary to Pakistan's expectations, no significant global support materialized. The response from the new U.S. administration was notably lukewarm. Vice President J.D. Vance’s words were telling: “We urge both nations to avoid war, but intervention is not our objective.” This statement has understandably caused concern in Pakistan.

Realizing its isolation on the global stage, Pakistan has turned hopefully to countries like Turkey and Azerbaijan. While Turkey continues to supply Pakistan with military equipment such as drones, it stops short of any substantial strategic involvement. Azerbaijan, with its long-standing conflict with Armenia, has been more vocal in opposing India and supporting Pakistan. However, the backing from these countries does not provide Pakistan with the international prestige or influence it seeks.

Domestically, the situation is equally bleak. The increasing attacks by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) have raised serious concerns about internal security. Furthermore, widespread protests demanding the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan have plunged the nation into deeper political instability. In such circumstances, it is questionable how a politically fragile state can regain international trust and credibility.

At the same time, Gulf nations like Saudi Arabia and the UAE are working to strengthen their ties with India. This diplomatic shift has left Pakistan in a state where even regional allies no longer offer clear and unconditional support. Apart from its nuclear status, Pakistan now has little to claim in terms of global influence. In reality, it has become an isolated player on the world stage.

Political observers believe that India's robust diplomatic strategies and the recognition it has garnered on global platforms have effectively put Pakistan on the defensive. How Pakistan manages to navigate out of this isolation remains a critical question in contemporary global diplomacy.
